Hello, everyone. I just registered this evening after discovering the forum about six months ago. To kick things off, I've pasted a link to a recording I very recently completed with a friend of mine. The fun part of this story is that my friend lives in Chicago, and I live in Portland. Magic made possible by Pro Tools and a .Mac membership.
Hope you enjoy.

First let me welcome you to Drummerworld were we aways have room for another Drummer friend. As for your link to your song. It takes me back to the 70's maybe Paul McCartney or even some old Chicago and thats good company so don't take any offense. As for the drumming I like some of the quick roll fills you have done. Also the straight forward beat is clean and not over done. Good job and welcome my friend.

Very nice indeed. Gotta love Pro Tools and .mac. Sounds great and I love the strings track from the keyboard. Welcome to our group and have fun exploring and sharing.

Thanks for the warm welcome, Sirwill.
First, I should note that Ocean of Tears is a work in progress. As I become more familiar with the forum, I'll post completed projects that are much more layered and, in my opinion, fun to listen to. At this point, other contributors will add vocal, guitar, keyboard and other instrument tracks to the song, eventually resulting in a finished project. Because we live so far from each other, the process can take a while. I'm just excited because this is the first drum recording performed on my new Pro Tools-based rig, and I really like the results.
The songwriter, John Bliss, has always reminded listeners of decades past. Ironically, like me, John is only 28 years old. We've both played in our share of bands with very different styles, but we always return to this same general style when it comes to our own music. I would describe it as classic-melody-driven.
Thanks for the compliments on my drumming. I'm not technically great, but I like to think I make songwriters happy with my thoughtful playing. I look forward to more threads and posts.

Thanks, Big Philly. I would agree that the recording is coming along nicely. If anyone has any questions about recording drums, I'm full of answers (or, at least opinions...I'm no expert). Over the past six years, I've learned a lot about the process.

Yes, a home studio. In fact, I recorded the drums in my garage. You'd laugh if you saw the setup. Maybe I'll post picks sometime. Lots of large boxes, blankets, and other sound-absorbing materials surrounding the drums, almost like a fort.
My rig is pretty nice for a garage:
Hardware
Furman PL-Plus Series II Power Conditioner
MOTU 8pre (using ADAT lightpipe output)
Digidesign 003 Rack
iMac
LaCie External Hard Drive
Software
Pro Tools LE 7.4
Microphones
AKG 3000B (2) - Overheads
Shure Beta 52 (1) - Kick
Yamaha Subkick (1) - Kick
Audix i5 (4) - Snare and Toms
Cables
Mogami Gold - Microphones
Signal Cable - Power
Drums
Yamaha Maple Custom Absolute Nouveau - Kick
Yamaha Beech Custom Absolute Nouveau - Toms
Yamaha Manu Katche Signature - Snare
Cymbals
Zildjian K
Sabian HHX and Paragon
Paiste Signature Reflector
Good times.

Thanks for the kind words. I believe the keyboardist plays a Yamaha Motif series. The "Rhodes" track is from the Motif, as well.
