Stef Broks is the drummer for Textures, a Dutch technical metal band. He's a left handed player who uses polyrythmns extensively, much like Tomas Haake of Meshuggah. He uses Tama drums and Meinl cymbals. Since I also use Meinl, I've noticed that he has an unusual choice of ride for a metal drummer; he uses a 20" Amun ride where most endorsees would use a heavy ride from one of the other series (I think this is a nice choice, as I find "metal" cymbals don't always produce a tone I like).

I find his drumming interesting and tasteful, not just technically proficient, but he doesn't seem to be very well known.

Which is kinda weird because this guy could easily pass as being the best drummer in the world, I saw them live and they are technical, brutal and mesmerizing

Agreed. Great drummer. I saw Textures last Thursday at the Camden Underworld, great band with very technical but still involving songs.

Probably my fave band after Opeth.

The set was too short though!!

This guy is talented, his application of polyrhythmic rhythms is not that extensive. Off the top of my head, I can only remember him doing a 4:5 thing in a part of Awake by Textures, usually just eighth note or sixteenth note based ones such that 4 is against X (4:X). A groove he has done which is basic conceptually but impressive is in Laments of An Icarus, where he plays the eighth note and eighth note triplet pattern over quarter note triplets (6:4).

Really great drummer. I'm definitely more impressed with his playing in Exivious (http://www.myspace.com/exivious) though

Hit'em up on myspace, he's a cool dude and yes probably the most technically proficient metal drummers I've heard. He's very down to earth and not hung up with attitude.

much respect.
