Dave Weckl Sig Vic firths

Hey guys,
just bought myself of Dave Weckl Sig sticks

jsut wanna know what you guys think bout them?

personally i love them..great feel!

Which ones though? He has two - the maroon colored ones (older style) and the newer brown-orange Evolution,

I use the Evolutions... great feel indeed. The laquer finish makes your hands slightly smelly but otherwise gives great hold and control. I also use Vater Recordings as well.. slightly longer for my edrumming.

Their really good, but the paint comes off. theres a thread somewhere about this stick

I use the maroon ones for everything.

I can't stand the yellow ones because they're balanced way different, but that's why he had them designed. They came out the same time he switched (back?) to traditional.

I've probably gone through a hundred pair of weckl's sticks over the years. The tips disintegrate before the stick breaks, usually, but I've broken a fair amount of them too.

i bought a pair of those with nylon tips and i didn't really like them too much

they were great for just practicing
but during gigs and stuff they'd slip right out of my hands

I have the Darker colored sticks and they are great. They can be used for any type of music. You can get a huge amount of power in them to. Im definitley buying the evolution sticks some time soon, they seem a little better for jazz and im doing more and more jazz lately.

I'm not too keen on the darker ones, picked up a pair on a whim. A little bit heavier than what I'm used to and the balance is much different. I still use them on some softer songs. They may feel great to the trad player though... I really don't utilize that grip so I have no idea.

I kinda grew out of the darker ones years back. The coating just seemed slippery for when you're working on more intense stuff. Then I discovered Vater and never looked back.

I really like the feel of both of his sticks. You should try a pair of the evolutions, and compare to see which ones you like better. I personally like the maroon coloured ones.

I just picked up a pair of the evolutions and they are pretty nice. But i also like the maroon ones a little better. I prefer the evolutions for jazz but thats about it just because it has a lighter feel/sound.

Hey...I have the older Maroon ones...I love em' especialy for jazz...(There obviously made for that =D)...I tryed em' with rock...there a little to long to me...
But yea...otherwise I love them!

the maroon ones I don't really like, they feel like small poles, and the finish bugs me..but i don't mind the tip

I've used the maroon sticks for years..love 'em.

I just picked up a couple pairs of the new evolution sticks and am still trying them out...so far i like them.

I have both types. And hate both. I don't even use them no more. Don't know why I bought them. That laquer finish makes them kind of heavy. I can live with Evolutions, the maroon one is terrible, too long, odd balance...

They're great sticks... the maroon one is for stronger backbeat stuff, as they won't feel very balanced in your hands if you don't play back on the stick a bit, which actually means you'll have a lot less rebound to deal with. The Evolutions are thought exactly from Dave Weckl's rebound approach, which needs a bit of a shorter stick and playing with that leverage effect...the hand becoming like a support of the stick and sending it down, but never worrying about picking it back up. Both techniques work fine in different playing situations and I noticed Dave himself uses both approaches, although he mainly teaches this bounce technique moreso.

Logically, a drummer like Dave Weckl won't demand a bad stick from Vic Firth! :D
