Snare heads

If got a 2001 pearl export snare and was wondering what heads you would recommend for a nice warm crack like ska sound and also what new snare wires would you guys recommend to help with the sound.

if you do not have acsess to the new Trick strainers/ wires
then go with Puresounds.strainers/wires any guitar center has em,
they are wonderful
they seem to help the "presence" of your drum whatever way you tune.
I go with the standard count, standard medium range of whatever they have in the store,
I stay away from the wider models.
In my opinion whenever you get a snare drum,
ALWAYS throw away the factory strainer and replace with a puresound. or aftermarket etc.!

OK, Let's get the terminology together.

Strainers/throw offs are the mechanical devices that are mounted on the side of the shell that raises and lowers the wires/snares.

That said, I do agree that Puresound makes some great wires. Wide wires work great as long as the snare beds are wide enough. The snare beds should be wider that the wires.

For heads. Remo Ambassadors are a good bet for an open sound. The drum will have some ring. For a drier sound the Evans Genera Dry is a good choice.

There are so many great heads to choose from it becomes mind boggling. You really have to try a few before you figure out what works best on your drums.

For the heads, I guess I have always been one that has preferred the Remo Ambassador sound.. although with just a touch of folded tape to kill off some of the overtones.. Then I happened onto the Renaissance series of heads by Remo.. I now use the Renaissance RA (renaissance ambassador) heads on my snares.. I love them. They are a bit drier than I have used in the past, but they still give a full rich tone and are great for almost any kind of playing..
