I accidentally bought a pack of 5b sticks and now I'm debating on whether or not I should give them to my drummer friends or keep them.

I noticed that I can move around the set much quicker with 5b's than 5a because they bounce much better, but when it comes to rolls and "lighter" stick control around the set its considerably more difficult for me to pull it off with 5b's.

So my question is, being a drummer that has been playing for 5 years on 5a's should I give those a good 2 to 3 hour practice to see if it can potentially be better or should I stick to what I have been used to.

Anyone ever done this switch before?

Give it a bit more time, you may find that once you get used to the sticks you can better control them to do what you want. But if they don't work for you in the end, try and find a stick between a 5A and 5B, they may be the middle ground you need.

What brand and model did you buy?

Ok then I would check out the Vater Fusion model. They're somewhere between a 5A and a 5B. When I used Vater I really liked them...they make work for you as well. I think I actually may have a few extra pairs hanging around...

I like getting comfortable with different types of sticks for different applications. If i need a massive rock beat I'm going to find my heavier and larger sticks for more sound. If I'm with the jazz band I'm going to use a lighter stick so i'm not overpowering anybody.

Go for it!

Try em out.

Are you sure you shouldnt try out other sticks while you are at it? I use plenty of sticks, such as Pro mark 747 Rock sticks, Vic Firth AJ6's, Regal Tip 2B's, Aquarian 2B lights, Dave Weckl Signature sticks and many more.
