View Full Version : Setting up own Woofer!

I'm thinking of using an old olympic 26x11 bass drum I have as a woofer for my bass drum. My bd is 20x14. I use the standard black remo resonant on the front with an off centre hole, an evans eq4 on the batter and a couple of pieces of dacron in the shell for muffling touching both heads. Also a left beater.

The olympic drum seems to have a very thing shell with reinforcement rings, so I think it might resonate well. I'm just wondering what skin and tuning setup people use on their woofers. And does it matter how close to the main bd it sits? And also about miking the woofer. I have a home made internal mount in my bd which isn't used anymore, so I can put that inside the woofer. But is there some kind of optimum position for the mike etc.

I don't have room for my kit at home, and it really only gets set up when gigging.

Another question, do you find you get sympathetic woofer activity from the other drums around your kit, or is that so low that it's not really a factor?

Thx
