Has anybody played these? What do you think of them?

I got one to try out on the recommendation of my drumshop guy who LOVES them.
He ended up buying a whole bunch of them. They're supposted to be only available this year....

I tried it out on a 2007 6.5 Ludwig Classic Maple wood shell snare (w/ tube lugs and standard hoops).

On this drum the head sounded really fat when tuned down a little, but was crisp and really responsive at all tensions.

It sounded good with the lower, med, med tight, and tight tunings I tried.

Being a 2 ply, there was not as much ring that needed to be controled like a 'regular' Ambassador.
Not really any of the higher pitched over ring that sucks.

Even though it's 10 mil total weight (7&3), it felt more like a regular (7 & 7) 2 ply head....pretty sturdy.

I think Remo would be smart in keeping this style head going past this year, and offering it in all sizes.

I have a couple other type shells I'm going to try it out on (brass & bronze) since it was cool on the wood shell drum.

HAHA!!

It figures!

Since I said that, I just saw in the new MD (jan 08) that Remo is now offering the "Vintage A" head in 10"-16" sizes.

Now they just need to add 18"....

I might just have a new favorite head then. Any news as to when these will be available, other than sometime next year?
