I have a 5 1/4 by 14 inch Maple snare drum and play styles like Gospel, rock, pop, and soul. I like a high "crack" sound on the snare, and also a sound that is crisp and articulate. I was wondering who has used the Puresound Twisted, Blasters, or Custom series snare wires. Also, which one of these 3 provides the least amount of sympathetic buzz? Which of the 3 would seem to best suit what I am looking for? Thanks.

Of the three listed, I would go with the 16 or 20 strand Customs. However, I would highly recommend the 16 strand Equalizer which will greatly reduce sympathetic buzz, tighten the sound for the high crack and would be highly articulate for a snare of that depth. HTH.

I would consider checking out some Sonor snare wires. Top stuff, great quality, options and sound.
How about some 20 strand brass or bronze wires? IŽd prefer those to steel snares since I find them too cool sounding, I miss some character and warmth with stell snares.

What particular snare drum do you use? And what heads?

Karl,
I use aquarian TC 14 head and my snare is a 5 1/4 by 14 inch Pacific Maple shell. Thanks.

How about some recs for a 13" x 4" Taye GoKit snare drum? I'm looking at an Evans J1 batter and a hazy 200 or 300 snare (stock heads on at the moment).
I'd like to reduce sympathetic buzz, also, as the toms really sing.

I have a GoKit... I was able to get rid of a lot of buzz by switching to:
Toms: Aqn. Texture Coated batter/Classic Clear resonant.
Snare: Aqn. Texture Coated w/ Dot/Classic Clear snare side + Puresound Blasters snares.
Bass: SuperKick 1 / white (non-coated) resonant w/ no hole.

There's a little buzz, mostly generated by the 8", but not much. Certainly no more than any kit I've ever owned.

Thanks, Chonson. Is that dot on the inside (so I can play brushes) or outside?

Dot on the bottom of the head -- brush friendly.
