I am gonna be throwing a EC1 on my 8x10 tom and EC2's on my 9x12, 10x13 and my 16x16 and was wondering what you guys would suggest for resos to give me a nice Funk/ Ska/ Rock kind of sound.

I'd go with a clear G1 or a clear Resonant Glass if you want a more open sound than the G1.

Why are you putting EC2 on the 12" tom? Let it breath(unless it has LOTS of overtones)

Instead of starting another head thread...

Would EC2 for batters on toms and EC1 for resos be a good match? I want a deep rock sound for 8,10,12,14,16 in toms

I also plan on using an EMAD2 bass drum batter head but I'm not real sure what kind of reso I should use for a 20x18 bass. Again I love deep sounds

For a 13x5.5 brass snare what heads should I use for a hip-hop style pop?

And for a 14x5.5 birch snare what heads should I use for a loud crack?

I'm sorry for hijacking this thread...I just see no point in starting another "head thread"

I would think the EC2 on the 8 and 10 would really kill the tone I'd go with a G2 or the EC1 on those, EC2's will probably work on your other toms. As far as the EC1 for reso, well it wouldn't be my choice I think you'll lose too much of your resonance and create a very dry dead sound. If that's what you want that's cool but I think if you look up the specs on most professional touring rock drummers you'll find they usually use and ambassador or G1 single ply reso and get incredible sound with proper tuning. Deep sound comes mainly from your shells, the materials they are made from and the depth, not your heads just keep that in mind. You won't get a birch drum to sound as deep as a mahogany.

It's a pearl, so it has plenty of reso on its own. It is just a weird wood.

Plus, it is the end result I'm looking for because I have a full on studio set up here in house and I was looking for something that the mics wont pick up a whole crap load of reso Vs the initial attack. Mics can change all.

That would take all of the life out of them. Just go EC2 with pinstripe on bottom if you want a heavy duty impact mostly sound.

I just got back from Sam Ash and I ended up going with a EC1 on top and a G1 on bottom after hearing what they were like on an identical set.

Resonant Clear on the bottoms , exept for the 16" floor tom, put a clear G2 on it. YES....a clear G2. Trust me! G_R_O_W_L !!!!
