Good headphones?

Well I searched and it yielded quite alot of threads that will take time to search through. However, considering most people have them for what I have seen, I need some good suggestions for headphones.

Preferably ones that can plug into an ipod or similar mp3 player, those little headphones just are not cutting it.

edit: i was looking at the headphones at headphone.com, mainly the full sized ones. Does anyone know if the mp3 player will produce enough volume into that type of headphone loud enough to make it more audible over the drums?

icans, available at GC for about $80. Not as expensive as the top line of headphones but I can play my ipod through these babies with my kit . ( I'm not a basher, though )

I use a set of Shure SE-310s for playing my drums, they block out almost ALL of my sound, and i blend into the recording nicely without having to turn up past normal volume levels :)

you can get a pair for less than 120 dollars on EBAY, and they come with tons of different silicone/foam earpieces.

How are these, are they any good? I am liking the price and the name brand so far the Stereo isolation headphones, which would allow me to play along with music and avoid excessive noise damage to my ears.

About the Vic Firths:
I don't have them, so I can't comment personally on their quality, but I remember mixed reviews about them. A while ago I was looking at them as a possibility, but I ended up going with the cheaper and more flexible approach of regular earmuffs (Home Depot, etc) over earbuds. Works pretty nice. And I've never had a problem with volume.

I don't know about the electric ones, but I have the isolation headphones that just cut out sound they they work wonderfully. I would think the electric ones have a great sound. Mine make the drums sound better than they are.

HEy i got The sennheiser HD 280 Silver.....They sound really good and they are very good isolators, i think they isolate 32 Db or so.

I also got the Roland RH-200, Both can be plugged to an iPod or Mp3 player, Walkman, diskman and so on, also have great sound but they are not very good with isolation in my opinion

I use the vic firths (SIH1) regularly while practicing. For the price it's a great product. I haven't tried the Sennheisers so I can't compare.
Isolation: 4/5
Comfort: 3.5/5 (after a few hours of having them on, they tend to get a bit uncomfortable)
Adjustability: 3/5
Durability: 4/5 (they've lasted me over 2 years with no real problems)

I use theses at band rehearsals each week. They're doing the job for me. Very good quality for the price.

The best headphones for me for the sound are the Sony 7509. The isolation isn't good enough for acoustic playing but I enjoy them a lot when I play my Roland kit.

xopeth was right on the money regading the SE310s by Shure. I just got mine in today, plugged them into my CD player, put on a few drumless tracks and OMFG!!!!
I had to change the isolating sleve to ALLOW a little more of my drums to come through. A little tweaking and I feel like I'm in a recording studio. I payed $139 with shipping on eBay. Best investment so far this year.

I am new to the whole rehearsal's thing but what do you as a drummer plug your headphones into?

The reason I ask is I just had my 1st rehearsal with a band and we played for about 90 minutes in a very small isolated room in the back of a music store and I had the worst headache I have ever had for about 12 hours afterwards. No I did not wear any protection but neither did anyone else that I saw anyway. I always wear something when I practice at home and was wondering if I did get a set with a plug, who's amp do you plug into? since the bass and both guitars each had their own amps.

And yes I will atleast bring ear plugs next week. I think I was so nervous about 1st time with other musicians that I forgot all about ear protection...A very painful lesson.

being a college student, I don't want to spend heaps on a pair of isolation headphones. So for practise at home when I'm playing along with music, I just use normal earbud headphones underneath stock-standard isolation headphones, like people wear when using loud machinery. They seem to work well, i only need my iPod at the normal volume I'd listen rather than having to blast it up full to hear over the drums. Only real problem is you look like an idiot when wearing them. But hey, I look like an idiot most of the time anyway so it's no big loss...

If you don't mind the in ear monitor design, for about $30 you can get sennheiser CX-300's which I find brilliant for MP3 player, and especially playing drums with, as they block out just the right amount of sound. (about as much isolation as foam earplugs)

If you want something a bit more top of the range, any shure IEM's should do the trick.

at home i use the lowest of those models, and it sound ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! they look vintage, and pretty simple, but their insides are made by Grado Labs, which makes them perfect sounding and for a reasonable price!
