trying to decide on a new 16", something dark, not too trashy, but complex.

veering away from the K and more towards the Paiste...

anyone use any of these or all? opinions?

Unless you want to stick with the three brands you named, maybe you should try a Meinl Byzance crash or an Istanbul Traditionnal? Those are complex without necessarily being trashy.

Ok firstly you'll have to exclude the K's because they're in the thrashy side...

And I'll second for the Meinl Byzance Crash propably a medium sized would be nice.

Try out the HHX Evolution 16" crash. I have it and its amazing. Its got a dark washy sound. Nice buttery feel when you hit it. Just an amazing cymbal.

Can't go wrong with the Hand Hammered line, try the HH Thin Crash 16"

I also just bought a HHX Evolution 16 inch crash, with some guy named Dave Weckl written on the bottom of it. I fell in love with it. Go bang on a few cymbals and let your ear decide.

I would defienitly say the HHX Evolution, Very Clean and straight foward, Dark with a sudden burst of brightness as like an after taste...But a17" is a great size because of the soft feel of power. One con. you have to lean into it a bit to get a full sound, a light tap will give you this nasty after taste of a sound.

Hmmmm, I always thought the 16" HHX evo crash was really disappointing - underpowered with a dull lifeless decay. Nice initial crash, then nothing - sounds weak out front too. Still, that's what makes this such a wonderful diverse world. If it has to be a 16" cymbal, then check out 16" Zildjian K Custom Fast Crash, it does everything you want.

I would suggest Sabian hand hammered crashes, really warm, lush, and smooth. I think their great.

I would go with the Paiste Twenty crashes. Also, look into the Signature full crash and New signature/Dark Energy crashes. The sound samples on Paiste's site are exactly what you'll get.

Zildjian K Dark crash, thin or medium thin. best cymbals i've ever used. They mix with everything.

I spend about an hour banging on some twentęs Friday. I was really pleasantly surprised. I did not care for the hats much but the crashes were great. Something I will add to my line up soon.

I have a 16" Evolution that is a bit unusual. It has a certain exotic flavour that my old one (I owned another previously) lacked. I do wish it was a little louder & heavier, but it cuts through very well considering how incredibly thin it is. And it is ever so buttery..
On a side note, I have a 17" Masterwork Resonant thin crash that is reminiscent of the HH line, but more complex. You might wanna look into these, too.

I would imagine something in Paiste Signature line would work. Zildjian Ks aren't trashy, but K Customs are. Sabian HH are not, but HHX are. Paiste Traditionals are pretty dark too. Bosphorus New Orleans are fantastic as well.

Try to find a place that has samples of the new Azure 16" and 18" crashes made by Istanbul Agop. Best sounding full on crashes i've heard since I can't remember when PERIOD.

Agree 100% with the HHX evo, I dont rate the twenty series at all.

I would go Sabian HH Dark Crash. It's complex but very refined versus trashy. The duo ride might be a nice shot, I can't say much about the Twenty's because I haven't had much experience with them
