If been following the vintage cymbal market out of curiousity and some of the auctions lately as i've commented on before on this forum seeing what people are willing to pay for old Turkisk K's. Well this one sold just minutes ago setting the new world record if i'm not mistaken for a old stamp 22" Turkish K at $3700 US on Ebay:

This is some very SERIOUS cash for some old bronze IMO.

Yup yes indeed the new world record for the sale of a vintage cymbal. I checked over at the "other" cymbal site a few minutes back and the resident old K expert there confirmed this sets indeed a new price milestone in the selling of a vintage pie.

I followed the last 45 minutes of the auction off and on and it sat at just over 3 k then at the last few minutes somebody pushed it to $3700 and it closed.

The insanity of old bronze selling has certainly reached new heights tonight.

How odd is that. The whole listing of the cymbal including the final sale figure of $3700 US has disappeared being pulled off the site. Strange{?}.

A prime example of Old K madness. I know a worse example though:

A guy at college knows a gentleman who owns a collection of vintage Gibson guitars. He has a Les Paul estimated at £90,000 value. That's utter madness.

A friend of my father just sold a Gibson 1952 mod and got 170.000 NOK which is about 31000 dollars. and another pal of his got a gibson from the 30' and it is estimated to around: 550.000 Nok which is around 102.000 dollars.. Madness really:)

*blink, blink* Imagine how many lovely Agops you could buy for 3700.
With so much money for just one cymbal I could finally afford the driver license to drive through Germany for Jam sessions.
Or a new kit?

I try to understand why people are willing to pay so much money for a piece of bronze...and at the same time I have to see that there are no borders set. Who loves it and has the money pays for it. Though naturally the price goes higher and higher, doesn`t it?
Inquiry grows, quantity of offered products sinks. If there were 6,000,000,000,000 Mona Lisas on earth one wouldn`t be worth millions of dollars for sure.
But that is the pure financial aspect.

The other one is the personal opinion. As I just said, if you love it and if it isn`t just a piece of old bronze for you, if it sounds unique and great to you...then you will probably spend a bit more on it than usual.
We pay "much" for that great feeling.

Karl

I've already imagined that and have a wonderful collection of Agops to show for it for much less than what that "one"piece of old bronze sold for Karl.

It's a rich collector's sport and game Karl as i've said before on this forum others can see fit to decide not to play and come home with some great sounding current Turkish handmade pies like I did with money still left over in the bank account to boot.

I need to bring this old thread back to life after just coming across this eye opener:

$8500 smackers for a old 24" cymbal is just plain INSANE!.

IMO, that is ridiculous. This kind of thing is even more prominant with guitars. A $60,000 guitar does NOT sound 30 times better than a $2000 guitar. A $8,000 cymbal doen't sound 40 times better than a $200 cymbal.

WOW! I wonder why no 1 has bid on it yet.
