Alright yall,,this ****ing sucks. So I bought these DWs from a guy for $1730. They are in great condition. Everything is perfect. But during shipping the bass drum got a small crack the misshaped it. The crack shows on the outside and inside. Has this ever happened to YOU. What did you do about it?

This sucks and im only home for the weekend before I go back to college so i won't get to play them till thanksgiving. ugh.

If anybody can help me then please tell me what to do.

The shipping insurance on the bass drum is only $400 which is not near the price of the drum.

Ahhhh...mother ****ing fed ex.

thanks for the help

I feel your pain. I've had two drumsets that I've shipped through UPS damaged, both on the bass drum in various ways.

What you need to do is take pictures of everything: the bass from various angles, the condition of the box etc.. and then contact the seller. Have him contact UPS and file a damage claim. Most likely the crack can be repaired and that is your best option as replacement would be too costly.

Yeah, those shippers really suck. I've heard some of the employees do it on purpose.
When I got my GoKit there was a big hole in the box but fortunately they were in their cases and had no damage. I feel for you and would say Fourstrings gives good advice.

You might be able to take the insurance money and make another bass drum. What finish is on the DW set. There's some guys over at GhostNote that can perfectly match your finish. You can take all the hardware off the cracked bass drum and mount it to the new shell.

If the crack is on the inside and on the outside I would guess that shell is gone.

Also I would guess by the fact that you say you can see it on the outside it is a lacquer
finish.

It may prove to be cost prohibitive but the first thing I would try is calling DW and telling them what happened. It is possible that since they do not need to measure or set up anything for drilling they may be able to do it cheaper then someone that will have to do it by hand. and they will be able to color match a little easier then a custom builder that does not use the color all the time. It is worth a phone call. I own DW and I know that they are very nice people.

If that does not work there are a pile of custom builders out there, a lot of them do hang out on Ghostnote but there are here as well. Most bass drums from these guys cost more then 400.00. And keep in mind you will have to have them match the finish so be prepared to send them one of your existing drums for matching. but since you have all of the hardware they should save you some money, you are going to have to find a builder willing to work with you, maybe you cold save some more money if you assemble it yourself.

Search on custom drums and you should get a lot of hits, there may even be one close to you so the shipping problem would go away.

Most likely the shell these builder will use will be a Keller shell, DW used Keller shells for years. DW now builds their own shells, I believe they use that exact same precess and molds as Keller. The point is it will be a match to you kit so don't worry about that part.

If it was only insured for 400.00 I doubt you will get any more then that out of FedEx
.
Also in my experience if it was not packed to their standards it will be even harder, he has to be careful what the says when he is filing his claim.

I lost a Pearl Export kick the same way. Crushed like a Styrofoam cup. UPS DID NOT replace it despite the fact I had $500 insurance on it. It HAS to be packed in it's original box or UPS has to pack it. Good luck Brother....

It's happened to me twice with UPS. Got NO Where. I always ship big stuff FedEX Ground but I'm sure they are not angels either. My Super Classic kick has some damage. One place on the inside of the shell, one place on the outside. It still sounds great, so I use it. The damage is on the bottom part so it's not there staring me in the face.
Man that sucks for you.

Realy? I've had two damage claims with UPS and they both got approved, one recently. But, they were repair claims not replacement claims, that might make a difference.

Do you know how old the drum is? I only ask because if the owner is the original owner and the drum is less than five years old, there might be a warranty or something.

All shipping companies have requirements on how things have to be packed, You will find most drum companies use the box in a box packing, there is a minimum clearance from the edges of the box and it is darn near imposable to get it on a bass drum.

Your shipper nor the recipient needs to file the claim,
