For the past couple years I've used a 2 cymbal setup. I've used two crash cymbals and no ride. However, I'm really missing having a ride now. I want to get one, but I need one that will work well as a crash. Something warm and washy would be ideal.

I've been looking at the Zildjian Pre-Aged Dry Light Ride. I remember reading about it in an article on Mike Marsh, the drummer for Dashboard Confessional. I'm not a big fan of their music, but I've always been a big fan of his drum sound. That's kind of the sound that I'm going for.

Please share your recommendations.

Something I just picked up last week might fit the bill for you perfectly. A 21" Istanbul Agop Mel Lewis ride with 2 rivets. Very warm sounding cymbal with a nice woody stick, smooth dark wash enhanced by the 2 rivets, good clear bell and an excellent responsive full shimmering crash.

I first gotta ask- are you looking for something warm, bright and pingy, or warm, dark and woody, like Steamer's above suggestion? Also, how loud and projecting of a cymbal does it need to be? Sorry, I'm not familiar with Dashboard Confessional.

I've never heard the K Pre Aged dry light, but I own the K Custom dry light, and I can all but guarantee it's not the cymbal you'd want -- it's not particularly warm or washy. Rather, that one is low volume, fairly dry "click" sound with a full-bodied yet highly controllable crash, and tonally it's got all the modern trashy/funky K custom tones going on.

I've had my 20" Pre-Aged Dry Light ride for many years. It has a nice wash to it and crashes extremely well.

I had a 21" Bosphorus New Orleans that might fit your description. Very warm, softer sounding, and very crashable. It just had more spread and wash than I wanted in a primary ride. It also had some trashy undertones that were nice as well.

The New Zildjian Armand Rides are very nice. Not bright but not dark either. K Custom Dark rides are another option. I don't think the Pre-Aged rides are made anymore. Strangely enough the 24" K Light Ride is another nice option.

A 20 22 or 24 Paiste 2002 ride would work too. Nice ping and a warm wash and a fantastic crash. It really does to both so well.

I can reccomend the Sabian 22" HH Jazz ride.

This cymbal is a great sounding ride with a sweet bell, and you can crash it easily.

It's not too dark or bright, and it's controlable. the stick sound is really good, and there's nice body to the overall ride sound.

My drumshop guy has been trying for 2 years to get me to sell mine to him. NO WAY!

I've used this one in a 2 cymbal set-up, and it's great.

Another cymbal that comes to mind for covering this type of character would be a 20",21"or 22" Agop lightweight Special Edition {SE} ride. Warm and crashy but a certain interesting "airy" quality to the sound too.

I never get tired of riding on my 20" Vault crash....come to think of it, the 19" Vault is a little warmer yet. Either way...those two in Sabian's Vault line, while not advertised for riding, do extremely well.

I have one too, and it is great for riding on. The bell is real nice, and the crash is smooth as silk, but still cuts through when you need it.

You might want to check out the 18" Steve Gadd session ride from Zildjian.

May I suggest the Avedis Zildjian 21" Sweet Ride? Definitely warm and washy, and eminently crashable. Nice, big bell, so you get definition there, though during standard ride playing, my Sweet Ride's overtones build quickly and obliterate the sound of the attack.

I've never heard Dashboard Confessional, but remember reading an interview with that guy Mike Marsh years ago and seem to remember him saying he used a Sweet Ride.

I picked up today a HH 21" Vintage Ride. It's great! It's warm, pretty dark, with a great bell and a great crash sound!! I love it!!

Depending on the type of music you play, I can second the A Zildjian 21" Sweet Ride nomination.
It's a great cymbal for washy ride cymbal sounds, the bell is nice and it's a superb big crash.

Like Steamer said: Agop SE Rides...light models.
Great stick definition as well as a light wash and such a nice smooth crash sound.
I find them pretty versatile: From Jazz to lighter Rock I`d personally like the sound...but that is a pure personal preference, you know. ;-)

Would you like a Ride which has a "clearer" wash and crash sound or something with a more complex crash/wash?

Here is an example of a 20" 1649 grams light SE Ride:

And a 1805 grams model:

PS: Another one which ran through my head was a 20" HHX Manhattan Ride...sounds a bit clearer and brighter in my opinion...
