Searching for a sound

I've had Remo Fiberskyns on my kit for a while and I loved the tone they had. It was warm with a controlled sustain. It made the drums sound big and full even though they are quite small. However, Fiberskyns are notorious for having very little attack. I'm looking for a head that will give me a big warm sound like that but have a more conventional attack. I was wondering about Coated Emperor heads doing this. Am I right? Or are something like coated pinstripes or something more of the way to go?

clear pinstripe bro, if you insist remo? Evans ec2 is what I suggest, I use clear, gives me enough ring and warmth :D

I've never seen Renaissane Emperors available anywhere except for maybe a 14" size. I'll have to check up on that.

I would think the EC2's might do the job. They have pretty decent attack, and are just grea heads overall.

How are EC2 Coated heads different from say Coated Pinstripes? What about EC1s?

IMHO Aquarian coated Super-2 heads will give you what you are looking for. They have a nice warm round tone with good initial attack.

I just don't want something that will have a plastic sound, but not as as extremely opposite as Fiberskyn heads were. I'm thinking of whether I want Coated Pinstripes of Coated Emperor heads. I had G2 Coated heads once and never did get a good sound from them but that could have been the terrible Genera Resonant heads I had too. The G2s sounded like a sheet of paper sitting on top of a drum unless you tightened them at which point they buzzed and had a strange ring too them. The EMAD I had was terrible too. It didn't really have a muffled sound at all and it had a sharp attack which I didn't care for in lower volume music. I'm impressed with Evans durability but haven't been with their sound but I'm still keeping them in mind. The EC2s aren't really coated though and that's why I'm wondering about them having that plastic attack. I'm just unfamiliar with Evans heads, can anyone offer more than just "these are great" type of advice? Like perhaps detailed examples or something.

Having used the Coated Emperors and Pinstripes recently, I would think that you would like the Coated Emperors more. The Pinstripes are really going to muffle your drums down far more than you are used to having used the Fiberskyns.
