Well, after long thought i have decided to slowly switch over to meinl cymbals. I just recently got the Mb10 Bell Blast Ride, and i have to say im pretty pleased with it. It has a very nice sound, and looks nice too. So as money comes along, i will slowly start buying more Meinl Cymbals. So if you have any suggestions such as crashes, chinas, and hi-hats, please feel free to give some feedback. Just keep in mind that i do play Thrash Metal, and mostly loud music. But i can pretty much play anything (from Death Metal to Polka) so they need to be some what versatile as well.

Any Suggestions?

Why do you have to "switch over"? If you still like some of the old stuff perhaps you can find some others to complement them.

I agree. Unless one is an endorser, who HAS to only use a single brand's range of products, why do amateur drummers ( or non-endorsers ) feel the pressing need to do the same?

You've got a much wider choice of goodies to pick from than the endorser- pro.

I use vintage Zildijians ( 20 years old), Brand new A-customs, Sabian B8s, Orions,and Paistes 2002.

I have never understood this phenomenon.

p.s. Istanbuls Agops, Constantinoples, I'm coming after you, next..

Personnaly...I've been using strictly Sabian for 20 years. Not even sure why. I think maybe I started out as wanting to feel loyal to one company (like an endorser) but that was when I was 14.

I still use only Sabian...but primarily because I get pretty good prices for the sounds that continue to be my favs.

I agree aydee that there is many choices available today so variety is good.

From an endorsers standpoint at least in my case Istanbul Agop I think it's just fine to use a wide mix of products from the same company no problem and don't feel i'm missing out by doing that in any way at all. For me they offered a very particular type of personal sound and cymbal character I was searching for and I found a variety of sounds within their lines to match what I was after.

I'm fine with others doing what suits their needs by selecting from a wide variety of cymbal companies just passing along comments from a endorser using products from one cymbal company with great satisfaction.

..And you have great cymbals, Stan. I'm sure your Agops are incredible, as I'm about to find out, with a ride cymbal soon ( fingers crossed )

I guess the true answer would be that its like anything else. I want a Nike shoe because Tiger Woods wears it...and he's wearing it because they are making it to his specs.

Steamer, if i have just like a some of your Istanbuls i wouldn't want any Christmas presents for a few years :)

Currently I'm building my first cymbal set. I like the Ks a lot and did the mix with having an Armand 18" crash.

In a way, i feel that sticking to one brand in a way has the same "family" of sound that blends better together. I did tried Sabian but the sound i'm building does work quite well yet.

Though, my next project is to mix the Istanbuls with the Ks and a few Armands.
REALLY hoping to get a Istanbul Agop 18" Thin crash but too bad I don't know anywhere locally that has them.

Any Montreal-ers wanna trade a one with me for my K 22" ride
I don't need an extra ride but a new 18" crash could be nice :P

I've heard Noel at Heartbeat Percussion say that if no Canadian Istanbul Agop dealer is close by that he will ship cymbals to customers in different regions of Canada freehandstyle. Worth checking on if you really want the Agop 18" crash.

Maybe he would like consistency in sound and appearance. To me, mixing up cymbals is like mixing up drums - yeah, you might get some great diverse sounds, but it will sure look odd, at least from my perspective. I only play A Customs, but I would give anything for a set of Bosphoruses.

From the post just above this one I bought s Sabian crash last night and it goes great with my Masterwork Jazz series. I see no need to stay with one brand if they sound OK. Since drum playing is all about sound, Brands mean nothing or not too much.

For thrash metal I would reccomend a combination of the MB10, Soundcaster Custom, and the MB20 lines. This way you will be able to add different colors to different accents, and be extremely musical.
