Hey I was wondering, does anyone here use programs like midi makers, guitar pro, etc. to accompany themselves while you're playing set?

I have tried on GarageBand before (great program especially since I got the midi hookups for my keyboard) but i just didn't have the patience to actually a write a song. I play piano and I know chord structures etc. but I really rather would play along to music that i already have from my iTunes library. Someday I might actually try to write a whole song and sequence/record it on GB and play along, but i don't really have the time.

You could sequence a MIDI (or similar) "cover" of an original song.

I've been trying to use "Tab Pro" (a guitar and bass midi program) to make some midi play-alongs. It's pretty cool. You can even find midi files on the internet and import them into the program (and take out the drums that are in the midi). I did find a really cool Reggae Version of Hysteria (a Muse song) and sequenced it so that I can play along to :P

I use ACID to create ideas for songs. I normally just throw in a drum loop or program one in Reason then put down a bass line and main synth using ACID. Then I take that into the studio and play it to the guys.

I do on occasion do electro/drum 'n' bass tracks and go to the studio by myself with the laptop and have fun :)

Hmmm.... yeah, that's true. I might try something like this or something else this weekend. I also want to try sequencing a basic song structure in some odd time and practice to that, and maybe throw in some time sig. changes.

The most I've done is recreated a simplified version of Hatesong by Porcupine Tree. It wasn't nearly the whole song, but it serves its purpose. Problem is it takes me way too long because my ears aren't very good for figuring out what notes I need.

Haha wow I'm having a blast... I just made a rock version of the Zelda Theme!
Also I've found a few of my favorite songs for Power Tab, and I play along to them!
