I think that maybe having a larger crash will help you play louder without risking breakage, but I must ask - how hard exactly are you hitting your cymbals to be "Asking too much"?

i never hit the crash on the edge it's normal but in loud gig like pearl jam sessions i have to push it down very hard( with the sliding moviment a litte out off the center) and i fell that the crash isin't there when i need it. especially durig ravvicinate strokes Do you know what i mean....i have also a z custom 16" medium that i use only in outdoor gigs, but for small clubs it does not work well, it isn't very musical....

Yeah, a larger size should give you a little more volume and projection.
Man, if I were you though, I'd hop on the first train to Pistoia and pick up some beautiful UFIPs at their factory.

For a long time I only used a 16" crash. I really thought it was all I needed until I got my first 18. Mmmm my ears were opened- and coincidentally discovered they needed to be cleaned. The 18 is my main, but 16s come in real handy for just a quick crash sound, or little accents. I'm scared of odd sizes. It's this complex I have. Maybe one day I'll try. Then I'll probably go all odd and be afraid of even sizes.
