Hi all,
I did a search and couldn't find anything.......

Thanks.........

I actually swapped my snare (CS batter) and 14" (coated emperor) tom because I was looking for more of a different sound out of my snare. I really didn't attempt to tune it very much because I just wanted to put a head back on that drum and not use it until I got new heads.

But to answer your question: It was deader than a rubbermaid trash can!! ;)

Well....that's strange to me......

I can't imagine it sounding so bad based on the fact that it's a single ply head with another ply in the middle (dot) ....hmmmmm

It could have alot to do with the head having quite a bit of use out of it. It wasn't dead or anything, but it was nearly worn out.

I didn't really try tuning much at all, I probably would have gotten a better sound if I worked with it some. It didn't have any sustain as the emeperor did. I also had this head on my snare cranked fairly tight, so maybe it was too stretched out to get a good sound out of on a tom.

I used the Remo Black dot heads in the early to mid 70s. I had a Ludwig kit with concert toms and they sounded good. The sizes were 12, 13, 14, 15, (I think. It was a loooong time ago.) with a 16 and 18 regular floor toms. The kick was a 26.

Back then the black dots used to fly off. I rememver one night a dot came off and stuck to a stick. Looked like I was playing with a fly swatter or sometyhng. Pure comedy. I would guess they're a lot better now days.

With the head technology that is available today I'm surprised there is still interest in these heads. I guess if you're looking for a vintage sound it would be a good way to go.

I've used the Black Dot on roto-toms, concert toms and two headed toms, all with great success. Not really what I'd put on a snare, but great for toms, and I've used 'em on kicks also.

Oh man I am laughing at the fly swatter story! I had a brush explode on me one time - it was very surreal!

You guys haven't used a COATED CS on your snare ?! VERY NICE! :-)

I was just thinking that it would be a nice batter side head for toms...coated, combo of 1 and 2 ply ......I don't know......just trying to be creative! :)
