I just had a visit from my new Meinl rep and he brought several cymbals from each line. I've smacked a couple Meinls here and there and always thought they were nice but never really took the time to learn all the different lines and their alloys. After my crash course in the Meinl line....I gotta say, I'm pretty darned impressed. They did a good job of capturing a lot of the Zildjian and Paiste characteristics in their lines. I'm particularly impressed with the Gen X and the Byzance lines. Cool stuff.

I can't stop smacking the 10-12 Electro Stacks and the Filter China up here at the counter. [chaaaa...]

Oops. I just hit it again. I'm geeking out.

[chaaaa.]

I've been noticing meinl cymbals a lot of places lately, most notably on the recordings of Phil Maturano. I think he's endorsed or whatever by them, and his cymbals sound great! I hardly ever see them in shops though.

Do you carry any of their other percussion instruments yet? I know they make great high-end congas as well.

Actually, we now officially carry all the Meinl lines (cymbals and percussion). It;s just a matter of me adding it to the web site (lots of time involved). Apparently their percussion lines are very popular.

Meinl Byzance are amazing. I'd play those if Bosphorus didn't exist. Tony at Cymbals Only got some custom made Meinls that are incredible. They're truly underrated.

Yeah, cool that had the opportunity to test some and to play some Shane.
Also I`m glad you like some of em...did you also test their Byzance "Jazz" line? Great stuff, especially the rides and crashes. Wolfgang Haffner (often) plays a thin Jazz model - lathed - I guess something like this:

Man...so beautiful.

And now you sell Meinl aswell?

Nice! I used to play a meinl cymbal, it was a great cymbal. Not the sound I wanted though, hence I got rid of it.

did you really mean to say you took a CRASH course? At least the rep. didn't take you for a RIDE.

I was heading my way to get a Meinl Byzance 18" Thin crash, but the store didn't have it and only had Med-thin and Med.

I must say i was quite impress with them, and I like it quite a lot but they cost $279 CAD which is quite pricey for a 18" crash my K light hats were around that price with my K Heavy around the $250 mark I don't see the reason to spend even more for a first crash.

I gave it up and took the Armand 18" Thin crash instead which I am quite happy right now. It was the right size and weight and had the tone i wanted. It cost me $189 which is like $100 CAD difference. that's quite a lot since I can probably grab a K splash 10".

I mean, i'd love to get my hands into some Meinl Byzance but there wasn't that much choices like they have it on their website. Now I'm just wondering, does the Meinl cost that much in the states for you guys?

And for your information, CAD and US is on par right now.

I picked up an 18" Byzance Medium crash and it really is amazing. The big 3 aren't putting out anything like these right now. This won't be my last Byzance purchase either.

Do you happen to have some Bysanze Extra Dry cymbals? They look, and from the Meinl web site sound great! Are they just as good in real life?

I have a 20" Byzance jazz ride a 16" and an 18" crash Byzance and a pair of 14" dry hats Byzance.
Great cymbals, and a very nice contrast to my set of 2002's from Paiste.
Right now i have my 2002's i the band practice room, and the Byzance cymbals are on my set at home. I love it just like that.
