Hi. This is my first post so please excuse any noobish stuff i do. I checked about 10 pages and did not see any thread concerning this. If there is one please tell me where to find it. If not... Heres my problem.
I used to live in Texas, which is where my drumset is. Now I am going to Ohio State University.I am currently in a Jazz Combo at OSU but i am feeling really down and depressed not having my drumset to practice on. And just today i had to turn down an offer to join a band because i do not have my own drumset. So i was wondering if anyone out there has any ideas about how to rectify this problem. Should i ship it here and put it in storage? Should i buy another drumset? Or should i just wait until Rock Band comes out and buy the set and pretend that its an actual drumset? Joking about the last one...I think... Any advice about this would be greatly appreciated thank you. Oh and i live on campus just so you know.

Yeah, those both sound good... so why are you asking this question?

Well, if money's not an issue, get the kit shipped there and rent a storage unit where you can go practice (provided you have transportation there). Otherwise, you could consider an e-kit unless you're a die hard purist for the acoustic kit. Good Luck man.

Surely the band offering you a gig has a place to practice, so why not ship it out and store it there? I understand you don't want it being messed with when your not around, so maybe stack the kick/toms/snare at your dorm(?) and leave all the hardware at the practice space, or even break it all down and store it at a friend's place? I would recommend doing whatever it takes to be able to gig out- you never know what might happen until you try. Also, you might try talkin to a drum/music instructor at the school, tell them your story and he/she might be cool enough to let you store your kit in a locked closet if you sweep a classroom or clean the drumline's snares... you might as well start getting used to transporting your kit around if you wanna do some live shows. Good luck with it.

Small world, I might have walked by you at some point then. I'm going to OSU for some morning classes right now.
Just to give you some information, North of campus a few miles is a fantastic drum store with great employees. If you take High Street north about 3 miles you will pass Morse Road and about 200 yards past that on your right will be Columbus Percussion (its set back in a strip mall- its across from a place called Graceland shopping center, which has a Target, Startbucks, Bob Evans, Kroger, etc... in it). Their website is columbuspercussion.com if you want to mapquest it, but its a fantastic store and they can probably help you out, and they'll usually let you sit on the TD-20 or in an empty practice room if you need to. Also, just down Morse Road to the east is a Guitar Center and a Sam Ash, and they are pretty friendly there too.
Also, talk to the guys at the university, or ask some of the other universities around here if you can use their stuff (in return for helping them with drum maintenance etc). Also, start getting involved in the drumming community here, because Columbus is literally full of drummers, you just wouldn't guess it. If you need to know anything else about the area, feel free to ask, I am pretty familiar with just about anything drumming wise that is happening around town. There is a fantastic drum festival every spring to look foward to as well.
