TAMA Cobra Clutch with non-tama hatstands?

Anyone know for certain whether the TAMA Cobra Clutch works unobtrusively with hat/pedals OTHER THAN the Iron Cobra variety?

Modern Drummer's magazine review says it works with JUST about any brand hi-hat stand. Might want to check to make sure your works with it at a store or something.

I have NOT had personal experience with it but it looks cool.
