View Full Version : which Sabian HHX to match my Zildjian K?

i'm looking for a 16" dark match to my 18" Zildjian K thin crash (i want the 16" to be slightly brighter than the 18").

which of the HHX models would you recommend to match?

i've heard the HHX studio and like it, but haven't tried it against my K yet. i know i need to bring my cymbals in to my shop to match them up, but curious what you all have experienced....

I'd say the Stage Crash or Studio crash, they're probably the most "normal" of the HHX's :P

An Evolution may be to your liking. I have a 16 that is very nice - darkish and slightly exotic. Opens up real easy and projects pretty well. Only downside (for me) is that it's really thin & fairly fast. I'd love for it to sing just a touch longer. Still very nice, just the same.

Try a HHX 16" Stage crash.

I second the stage crash, maybe the studio crash, but the stage crash is brighter (and heavier).

I use two 19" HHXtreme crashes in my setup along with a 20" HHX Ozone crash. These cymbals are pure joy to play. Very dark and low pitched.

so i might buy a used HHX Stage crash used before going in to my shop and actually testing my 18" K thin against it. i'm stuck with listening to the sound samples online for comparison. i like the darkness of the Stage, but am afraid it might overlay the darkness of my 18" K thin.

i'm basically looking to replace my 18" K medium-thin with this potential 16" HHX Stage or Studio crash. the 18" K med-thin is SLIGHTLY brighter than i want, so perhaps the Studio will be the same but obviously in a 16" size? then again, will the Stage be too much of the same as my 18" K thin that i am keeping and need to match the HHX with?

help, i'm short on time and i know i'm risking it without testing, but i've got a good deal!
