Hello all,

I have been teaching private drum lessons in DC for about 9 months now. I am starting to plan my Christmas recital and my kids are begging for drum-set solos to do instead of snare drum solos (who can blame them?) I think it's a great idea, but I don't have to time to write them myself. I'm looking for a book (or a couple) of easy to intermediate drum-set solos- does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks a lot

Lindy

I seriously thought the title was "Rectal Pieces"

Anyway, so this reply was not a total waste, I believe (but don't have the book handy) that Carmine Appice's Ultimate Realistic Rock has some 16 bar "solos" (if they're not technically solos, they are 16 bars of different patterns and stuff, which could easily qualify as a beginner drum solo).

There's a great book out there called Advanced Funk Studies. At the end it has 10 intermediate groove-oriented solos. I believe it comes with a CD with recordings of these solos.

You might also check out a piece called Eclipse. Its a duet for two drum sets.

have your most advanced students create these "pieces" based on recent lessons...... very rare it will be, that a drummer is asked not to create.
