Hi All,
I've had Paiste 101's since I started drumming 18 months ago. At first they were fine and still are but I think my playing and listening has outgrown them. So I'm starting to upgrade my cymbals. I use my hats most so thought I'd start with them.

I have seem some Paiste 404's on Ebay (nearly new) and these are the same as the cymbals I use when having lessons. If I buy these I can afford hats and a ride or I could upgrade further. My local drum store has PST5's and UFIP Tigers in stock so I was thinking of having a try out to see which I liked best and also to take their advice. I'm not hung up on Paiste or UFIP but I haven't any real experience of other cymbal manufacturers.

I thought, seeing as I have had such good advice and support from you guys in the past, I'd just check out if anyone had any sage words for me or if anyone had been in a similar position.

cheers
Kevin

How much are you willing to spend?

Check out e-bay they have great deals on used cymbals. For a nice upgrade from the 101's check out Zildjian A's and A customs, also maybe check out some sabians AA or AAX .

Also heres 2 other resources for used/new cymbals.

Cymbalsonly.com
Cymbalcellar.com(bosphorus cymbals) - I have a 20" Traditional Bosphorus ride I love.

Check them out and let me know what you think.

Hope this helps!

I second the eBay recommendation. You can get some top cymbals for relatively little money. I wouldn't bother with the Paiste 404s,they are not much of an upgrade from the 101s,you would simply be trading cheap brass for cheap bronze. I think your budget would best be served by having a look at what's on eBay. Happy hunting...

Thanks Guys, Much appreciated and your suggestions turned my head a little to look at other cymbal manufacturers.

I checked on Ebay but the prices were not much different than in local drum shops. I eventually bought some Sabian XS20 Hats and ride. They sound so much better than the 101's and are more intermediate than high end. Which I guess fits a little better with my playing :-)

I bought them from Manchester Drum Shop and for anyone in the UK it is worth having a look at their site and shop...expecially if you live up north like I do.

I'm off to do more practice....those new cymbals have really got me fired up!
