What have you been transcribing lately? I've been listening to a lot of jazz but I haven't found anything that I want to transcribe yet. Would you mind giving the names of some songs that I can listen to and transcribe. Also, if it's possible, can you give me one of your (favorite) transcriptions?

Much appreciated,
Lance

Lately I've been transcribing a bunch of Miles Davis solos. It was a project for Uni to transcribe a solo and transfer it to the drums. Been very interesting. His use of simple phrases and then his creative re-interpretation of them is simply astounding. Actual drummers though...lots of little phrases by Jeff Ballard lately.

I transcribed Elvin Jones' complete transcription on John Coltrane's "Big Nick"

There's a lot of subtle ghost notes and some great phrasings Elvin plays - great song that is totally overlooked...

Great solo for sure, and good idea to have transcribed it. How long did it take you to transcribe it? Did you use a slowdowner soft or sg like that as help to piece things together?

I'll see if I have enough time on my hands to make a decent Sibelius score out of the pen-and-paper version.

Yeah, the first time I heard and saw it I knew I just had to transcribe it. I worked it out in the course of four months, on and off, but I'd estimate that I used roughly ten hours total to get it all together. I used Goldwave to loop certain sections and slow things down when necessary.

Great, but even the handwritten score would do me fine. Thanks for putting me on to the man, not a guy i'd looked at before.

OK, the transcription to Joel Rosenblatt's solo (http://www.drummerworld.com/Videos/joelrosenblattbasel.mov) is right here (http://www.hostfile.nl/files/av9d3vgxij/141/Joel%20Rosenblatt%20-%20Drum%20solo.pdf). Next up, Keith Carlock's solo from the Modern Drummer DVD...

Transcribing isn't one of my strong points, but I have been writing out parts of some new songs I am learning. I'm in a new group that does smooth jazz and all the parts are for guitar or piano so I'm having to come up with my own parts and write them down, usually just a few measures in the margins of the sheet music.

Nothing right now and it's a shame because transcribing isn't a strong point of mine either. I'm going to be teaching soon (once I get some students) and I really need to start working on it.

Try out take five. I know someone posted a transcription on here somewhere. My drum teacher also made a nice transcription. He did the solo when he got his bachelors.

I've been working on transcribing "Lateralus" by Tool. There is some excellent soloing w/ a lot of subtle touches in parts of the song...as well as several odd-metered bars and measures...cool stuff!

Yesterday I transcribed "The Ocean" by Led Zeppelin. I wanted to learn the song perfectly and it's pretty easy to transcribe. It was the first I've ever tried to transcribe. I think its a good choice for anyone who is just beginning to transcribe because while it is not very complex, they do slip into different time sig's.

I never knew there was a bar of 7/8 in this song.

Hey Wavelength..I tried to get that transcription but it kept saying the host file was missing :-( can we give it another shot or am I missing something myself? Thanks for attempting to share your hard work!
