Hi its my first time on and i thought i'd put down a couple of things I like to do. First is something I think helps to keep both wrists strong and equally balanced. Basically it's just a shuffle with both hands.
First, RR LL RR LL, remembering the shuffle feel (1 - 3, 1 - 3)
Going straight into RRRR LLLL RRRR LLLL
Then, again straight into, RRRRRR LLLLLL RRRRRR LLLLLL
And finally RRRRRRRR LLLLLLLL RRRRRRRR LLLLLLLL
All the while i try to remind myself to throw the sticks in and remember to snap the sticks back with my fingers at quicker speeds. I try to get to about 210-220 before starting to drop off.
Also, something I like to throw in the middle of a 4-4 groove. It helps me with my time by really trying to pick out each note.
Basically it's groups of 5 but with accents creating a shuffle within, all played on the snare.
12345 12345 12345 12345
r l l Rl r r l lR l r r l l Rl l r l (capital R - accented note)
b b b (underneath that play the bass drum on the 1 of the three)
