Picking a new snare strainer

I have a sonor force 2005 kit and I need some help with picking a new snare strainer, can anyone recommend me something? I play of eververything jazz, rock, hiphop funk and rock so I need something versatile.

And what are the differences in a 18 strand and 32, sensitivity?

Is there something such as OVER doing it on a number of wires for a strainer?

Are you talking about the snare wires or the strainer, the locking mechanism??
I know some sites list the wires as strainers and maybe so, but to me the strainer is the handle etc.

I use a 20 strand snare wire set. I have a 40 wire set but its very tempermental. I dont thnk they are necessary for good snare sound.

I'd say it mostly depends on the snare itself. Picking a proper snare-wire count strainer is partially dependent on your liking. Puresound.com has some good vids online to help push you in a specific direction. I went with the 42-count based on their recommendation judging the width of the snare-bed (where the strainer connects on each end of the snare shell). I'm happy with the sound I get from my main snare (Maryland DC 14X6).

Another vote for Puresound. I use the 30 strand wire on a 13 and 14 inch snare and they sound great. The cost around $30.00.

Another vote for the Puresound Super 30 wires. I have those on my Supra 402 and it sounds really good. I've also had good luck with the DW truetone wires, which I have on my DW and Brady snares.
