Hi there,

it's been a while since I posted regularly on these boards. I've got a bit of a problem. I had a custom snare made for me and my original plan was to have an Evans Rcok AF head on it. Then I was told they were no longer in production so I began to look at alternatives. I found an Evans MX Gold head (a marching snare head) which I would use in it's place (don't think I would take it anywhere near a normal marching snare tension! plus my snare shell is nearly 8mm thick aluminium so I'm not too concerned about damaging the shell) but I've just been told the MX Gold is on a 2 month wait so I need to look at another alternative. Anyone got any ideas? I'd like to stick with Evans but if I can't find the sound I'm looking for I'll have to go for something else : (

I want a real dry, loud crack sound. The snare itself should sound that way anyway (I haven't actually picked it up yet!!) but I want a skin to enhance that sound.

Any thoughts?

Cheers!

Al

You could try a Evans ST Dry. That would get you close the the sound your looking for.
