Where can I get that kind of rubber used on practice pads?

Here I go with one of those seemingly dumb questions. I built a pedal practice pad, and I'm currently using some carpet squares taped together with duct tape. Needless to say, it doesn't offer any rebound action and is noisy. Well, I don't mind the noise that much, but I'd like something that gives me a more realistic rebound action. Is it neoprene, perhaps?

Take a tennis ball, slit the bottom and slide it over the beater. Then to secure, screw down the top of the tennis ball to the beater in a few places with small screws. If you can secure the ball enough then it might give you a rebounding feel with some give, like a real head.

Few problems I see with that idea: You ruin a beater with the screws. Also what makes a tennis ball "bouncy" is the air that is compressed inside once the air is gone you just have felt, same as a basketball. When the air is out of a basketball the rubber shell offers no bounce quality, it's the air inside that gives the bounce.

Not really sure where to tell you to try, might google urethane and see what you come up with

I found these stomp pads in a snowboard/ski shop.

They are basically the same material as what is used for a mouse pad, only a little bit stiffer. I cut them to length and use these for protecting the bass drum hoop where the pedal clamp attaches.

You may want to consider something like this, or use a mouse pad with two sided carpet tapeGood Luck and good drumming.

Picture mousemats with coated smooth surface are quite good and you can usually get them for free....

Actually, I was looking for something a little bit thicker than a mouse pad, but I'll give it a try anyway, while I put some money together for a real, decent practice pad.

If you can find an industrial supply shop in your area they probably carry sheet stock for making gaskets and things. They could probably cut you a square foot of it for not too much money. The actual compound does not matter but the hardness probably does. Rubber hardness is measured by the Shore durometer A scale, and 70 might be typical. The easiest thing to do is take your drumsticks along and try a sample.
