I'm curious why the accents which are clearly indicated in the written exercises are not played on the Cd's which come with the book. I looked on the CD and it says the drums were played by Jim Chapin. Does this mean he cannot read his own exercises? Or maybe he was just lazy and didn't play them?

Nice name. I'm sure there is a reason...

I noticed this too! (I've been recently working out of this book and only got around to listening to the CDs last week.)

I noticed this too! (I've been recently working out of this book and only got around to listening to the CDs last week.) Ya it may be confusing to beginners. He has the accents in the exercises so you assume you play them. But let's say a beginner didn't know how the exercise is supposed to sound and they turn the CD on. Then if they play it like on the CD they are not playing it how it is written. I just don't know why someone would do this. I guess he was just lazy...

It's possible that he recorded versions with accents and they weren't used because he didn't like the takes. Maybe something technically went wrong with the recording or maybe someone else made an executive decision. Running out of time and money could have been an issue too and he figured "close enough".

Ya that's true. Well its the book that is important anyways. The Cd's were made like 40 years later than the book. They were probably short for time and something happened. I expect better from someone like Jim Chapin though...

I have been playing those exercises on and off for years. Personally, I like to play them until I am comfortable with a page or so, then put in the accents. It's a little frustrating (for me) to try and place the accents right from the start.

I've wondered the same, but I wouldn't criticize Jim. The accents were an important part of putting the Moeller Method to practice in the exercises. Perhaps Jim, had wanted to re-record the exercises with the accents and never got around to it. Back in the day, CD''s and DVD's were not as important a vehicle for bringing up the price of the book, I mean selling the book, as they are today.
