Coated Powerstroke 3 - Bass Drum Batter

i was thinking on getting this head for my batter as i want a warm sound (the coated) but also a dampened sound as i like that sound on my bass drum (the powerstroke 3 has dampening rings like pinstripe).

right now i have the standard protone head that came with my pearl kit but i have a couple of pillows in it to achieve the sound i want.

would you recommend this head for me.
again i want a dampened but not completely muffled sound but also warm sounding.

any suggestions on other heads if this head isnt the type i should get?

right now on my snare i have an emperor x and on my toms i have clear pinstripes and i want a bass drum head that would sound good with these other heads.

Yes I would recommend the head I have a older Pearl Export Select kit with a 20" bass and that's the head I use.I used to use a coated emperor but I like the PS3 better all I put is a towel folded just barely against the batter head and the drum sounds great.I've always used all clear heads on my big kit(24" BD,12"TT,16FT) and coated on small kit(20"BD,10TT,14FT)i've always used 14" coated ambassadors on my snare.

Use a PS3 on both sides and cut a hole into the resonant head, and you won't have to use any muffling.

liaman ambassador would probably work but if you put on a diplomat you might even get more reso. out of the drum it also has to do with how much muffling you have in your bass drum you can also get bass drum heads with the hole all ready cut in I have a Aquarian resonate black head it has the hole cut in it with a small piece of foam rubber glued around the perimeter of the head.hopefully this is helpful.

On a 22'', I've used a coated PS3 batter *without* the Falam pad, with a smooth white reso ported with the smallest hole that a mic will still fit inside (the circumference of a can of Progresso soup has been the magic size for me so far). I didn't use any muffling at all and it sounds great.

Even though I'm running coated on everything else on that kit, in the final analysis, I think I prefer the clear PS3s as kick batters. To my ear, the coating warmed the sound a little too much, until it's getting a little dull. The coated still sound good, though. It wasn't bad enough for my to switch it out with a new clear one or anything.

Also, have you considered a Fiberskyn? The FA weight batter combined with a felt strip is warm and boomy. They make 'em in PS3, too.

Wavelength's suggestion of Powerstroke 3 batter and reso. sounds like a good choice to me. Because you have "laundry" in your kick now, to achieve the sound you want, I think a P3 batter/Ambassador reso. would give you more drum than your used too. I ran a Yamaha 20x14 clear P3 batter/ebony P3 reso. and it had a great, tight, punch with almost no overtone. My 26x14, I run P3 batter/ebony Ambassador with port reso., and I think that combo is gonna give you a little too much "live drum" overtone. Being you also run Pinstripe heads on your toms, doesn't sound to me like you like a "live" drum all that much.

They all work well. A coated head will give a bit warmer sound than a clear or an ebony head. I'd go for a clear batter coupled with a coated reso.
