Noonan Custom Drums. I've met Gary Noonan on many occasions as he used to run a shop near me. Makes the highest quality drums I've ever seen, he specialises in stave shells and steam bent (although he does make ply shells from Keller) and makes his own shells. Expensive, but the most amazing shells I've ever seen.

I won't pretend that they aren't expensive. They're a very niche market, but they are the utmost quality. Gary's been making drums for a very long time and he really knows what he's doing. Beyond most of our wallets mind, but I thought I'd suggest it as an option.

for sure, they're great :) but i'm afraid they're out of my budget now.

Oh and Animal Custom Drums in the UK are totally custom and very affordable (in the UK atleast could get painful when your convert to euros)

thanks for the info :) those Animal drums are incredibly cheap as for the custom drums. how about their quality when comparing to mass-produced drums?

Look over in Germany at Sonor.

SQ2s are truly custom drums produced by a major manufacturer. They are taking orders for the Designer series through December as well.

Like most of the other builders mentioned, not inexpensive. Expect to spend 6 to 8 thousand (USD) for an average kit.

They are very good. They make their own shells using fantastic Birch and everything is chosen by you as you would expect from any custom company. I emailed them a few weeks ago about some kind of snare and they were very helpful and had no problem with my endless questions and in the end we had sent eachother about 10 emails each! Sadly I had a few unexpected things I had to pay for which hurt the wallet too much to buy the snare but they still helped me out even giving me some cost cutting tips.

The finishes are beautiful and you can get pictures of your drums being finished step by step through out the process. I keep saying 'they' but really its just 1 man. Take the time to email Carl im sure he would be very happy to hear from someone outside of the UK.

My next snare will be Animal and in the future my next kit too!

That'd be the "cat" in Germany you need to talk to. Amazing drums.

Oh and you won't beat Highwood for the sets... they're the best over there by far.

Highwood Drums look amazing. They make their own shells. And they have a slightly cheaper range (Custom Lite) in addition to their full custom sets.

This is from their Exotic Ply range, which I think is rather tasty:

I can't believe no one has mentioned FVF from the UK.

Francis is an absolute legend. Back in about February time I ordered a custom aluminium snare. He's finally confirmed that it's finished and sent me pics of the finished drum... I'm hoping to make arrangements to pick it up this weekend cos he's a good couple of hours drive from me.
