I'm a big Mike Clark fan and just so you know he has a book called Funk Drumming which has a transcription of it with alot of other simular type grooves in it....
I would highly recomend it!
Also there is a poster that goes by Korompay who posts alot of transcriptions on this site and I think he has it...just too lazy to find it for you.....

Watch him play it. http://www.drummerworld.com/Videos/mikeclarkactualproof.html
I don't really like his bass drum sound. Too high pitched for me, but I love his style.

O yes, someone, use the most ineffective form of any musical notation to chart out this beat. Come on, thats gotta be near impossible. Korompay has it transcribed above.

Bernard actually added Korompay's transcription to the clinic section. So you can follow along with what he's playing at the same time http://drummerworld.com/Videos/mikeclarkactualproof.html
I agree with Britt. Tabs are ineffective no matter what instrument you play. While they might help a bit with guitarists if you're unsure of a note being played and what not, but they are completely useless for drums. They are the equivalent to reading a book and instead of words and sentences, you're given words that are mispelled, run together, and have no punctuation. You can maybe figure it out but it's going to frustrate you more than help you.

I have been trying to copy/learn this groove...not easy. Any tips?

slingerland, Mike does a lot of variations off of a basic groove, and my advice to you is to not let all those variations overwhelm you. Learn the groove's foundation first, which I'd say are the first two bars of the transcription Korompay did, and only once you get that real solid should you move on to all the change-ups.
BTW great job Korompay on that transcription.

Yeah you should buy his book and just learn as many grooves as possible so that you can understand where he's coming from in songs like Actual Proof and Loft Funk. I have the book, it's brilliant.
Im glad this was brought up, this groove is killer. Im going to go home and practice this tonight.
And his bass is killer I dunno who was sayin it was to high...
