The fundamental note will be the same. The 24x20 will move more air and resonate more than the 24x14. It will also have a big boomy sound. For Rock I like the 24x20 or even a 24x18 better than a 24x14 , but it depends on the type of music you play as to what would be the best fit. I had a old classic ludwig kit that had a 24x16 kick and I liked it alot but would have preferred a 24x18 , but they didnt make one at the time. For what I play I definately wouldnt want the 14in depth because I want more boom in my sound. Having said that when I got a new kick drums for my pork pie set I went with a 28x20 which is massive and also a 20x20. I like to have options depending on who I play with. My latest kit has a 26x14 which is great but I think when you get up in the 26 and up category everything sounds massive. Not sure if that helps you... Im sure others will chime in.

I dont think its a matter of difference in sound quality, with an equally well built shell and the same heads, the sound quality would be the same. I think the difference would be mainly in your liking or not liking the sound.

It sounds just how it looks, the shallow bass sounds flatter, and the deeper bass sounds more focused. like a jazz bass vs a hip hop bass.
