Ok so my snare is a ludwig 14x5 1/2 steel and by observing the plate with the logo on it the snare seems to be from the 70's....it had ludwig rocker heads on it when my dad purchased it...so i was wondering if this snare is any good?...i cant give u a model name or anything because i cant seem to find one and also i do not have the snare with me right now...but i mean somebody on here had commented me on another forumn saying those heads were only used on entry level snare drums by ludwig but that they werent sure...so can anyone help me out...because if i dont want to replace my snare i would rather not because i have alot to buy when it comes to my set..

Post pics of the drum, inside & out, badge, strainer, etc.

Head type means nothing when trying to determine drum type or series.

Do you by any chance happen to be deaf? I mean, that's probably the only real reason why anyone would ask on an internet forum whether his snare sounds good or not. If you like it, it's good, and if you don't like it, it's not good (...or you can't tune or play it properly).

It is most likely an Acrolite. There are 8 lugs on it so count em up and confirm.

Acrolites are always 5" deep, never 5,5". The Ludwig steel snare is an entry-level snare, as almost all steel snares are.

Probably, since the 70's had so many acrolites (always 5 or so on ebay for sale) I figured he just measured everything on the snare and came up with the 5.5, and I have seen them being described as steel before when confused about the metal.

I don't even know when steel snare was introduced, I thought that came in the 80's sometime. Oh well, I base too much on assumptions, and that's never good.....

If it had Rocker heads on it, it is most likely from the Rocker series, which was a Ludwig entry-level series. Ludwig make good snares though and if you like the way it sounds, then it's good for your purposes.

Search the forum. I think there was a big discussion on the Ludwig Acrolite lately as well as someone going through the history with pics ect.

It was very informative. Check it out.
