Got a New Snare

My wife is good!!!! She bought me a Maple DW Custom Series snare in 5x14 for our anniversary which is a week away. I got it early so I could use it for an outdoor concert I'm playing in on Sunday. Man this thing is beautiful and sounds awesome!! still need to tweak it a little but talk about projection and volume. First new drum I've gotten in 20+ years since I got my kit.

They are actually the predecessors to the RC series according to the fine folks at yamaha. This model was replaced by the RC's.

Congrats on the new snare!! Looks like the DW I got last week in broken glass. They sound amazing!!! Im still tweeking tuning / head options myself. I have a Aquarian texture coated head coming for mine. Should sound even better. Good luck with the show Sunday.

It's been 6 years. I got her diamond earrings last year, she said this was for the earrings ;-) We don't usually get each other stuff for our anniversary, well at least that's what we say and I normally get her something small with the exception of last year. We've been together allot longer than that though.

Yep still trying to find the tuning on it. My other snare is a 6.5 x 14 so it's got allot deeper tone and the snares aren't your typical wire so it's a drier sound. This DW definately has a killer "crack" to the rimshots and projects like mad!

Here's what the snares on my other one look like.
It's a Hinger Touch Tone from the mid 80's. This was one that one of my private instructors strongly suggested because of the sound and quality of the drum. He played for our professional symphony orchestra in town and they all used these. Got a great price on it too because he personally knew Fred Hinger the guy who made them :-) This thing has a great tone, dry compared to wire snares, and is capable of incredible sound and projection! Doesn't work real well with ghost notes and such.
