I posted a thread here a couple weeks ago about having received an out-of-round drumshell from WorldMax. I recently received a replacement snare, however, this snare is seriously out-of-round too. I can tell because I have used a ruler to measure different cross-sections to make sure it reads 14" everywhere. Also, the die-cast hoops are perfectly round as it fits my new heads perfectly, however, once put on the shell, you can clearly see gaps where the shell is bent in and the hoop/head has to be slightly forced into position.

BTW this is for the snare side, not the batter side.

Is this a common occurrence or do I seriously have some bad luck?

Please give me some feedback so I don't think I'm going crazy!

I have 3 black dawgs (5x14), 1 black hawg (6.5x14) and one black puppy (7x13). All are fine. I have seen one that was out of round though.

Does it sound ok? My guess is yes... btw.. no shells that i know of actually measure 14"

Also.. I doubt we can really say that measuring with a ruler is that accurate. Basically as long as the head goes on there, it tunes up easily, and sounds good, you're fine.

This is a wild uneducated guess, but are you checking the roundness with the batter head on? I'm just wondering if the pressure on the top is causing the snare side to bend.
