Who is using the 13" snare? Who is using a 14" snare? What is your preference and why?

I have both, and between a 13" and a 14", I prefer 13". I like the feel of a 13" drum, i can't explain it other then i like the way this tunes and feels, and the slightly more drum sound. (14" sound head-y to me sometimes?)

But then again, If your like me I like to have as many sound options as possible for snares. So I own 2 14"s and 3 13"s in all different depths and materials.

I play a 13 snare. The smaller diameter gives it more focus and pop, but the sound is not as meaty as it would be with a 14 snare. That's the tradeoff.

Depends on the music.. My 13" stave is amazing but it isn't suited for everything. Smaller diameter = higher pitch... I've got the 14" mag that is my go to drum for just about everything.

Numerous metal drummers use smaller snares because they use the double pedal to compensate for the loss of meatiness and to pack extra punch! With a 14", you get a much fuller sound for single bassed grooves!

...I like my 13x5.5" craviotto when I am using smaller drums such as my 20, 14, 12 Ludwigs, or the 20, 14, 10 franken kit.

Otherwise I prefer a 14" snare.

I just prefer a 14" snare all the time...
I guess it's just the perfect size is all.

A vote here for my 13x6.5 Yamaha Musashi Oak. Although it wouldn't be suited for everything, it's a great snare all around. Good tuning range (although I prefer it higher) very sensitive and a good all-around package. I'm thinking after a Black Beauty (or a Big Dawg) as a contrast, but I'm happy with my Musashi.
