alright so i have a set of used Yamaha maple customs and my drum teacher wants to trade me for a set of almost brand new sonor delites (last years model) because he would prefer a used set for gigging and does not want to resell the new sonor's and risk them getting hurt or other b.s. you go through when shipping large items. my drum teacher is the coolest guy ever and wouldn't do anything to rip me off.
Anyway should i trade or what?

Play them and see if you really like them. Both are great drums!

Tough call. The Delites have thinner shells, which may be cooler depending on your preference for sound. The Maple Customs (MCs, right, not MC Absolutes) are 7 ply shells with 10 ply bass drum = heavy! Then again, Sonor makes pretty heavy drums too. Our university uses Yamaha MCs, and I prefer the thinner shells (the Absolutes, or, in this case, delites) to them. I think the Delites are 4 ply with reinforcement rings.
Yamaha and Sonor are great drums, especially the higher-end kits (maple customs/delites). I guess it comes down to sound difference, hardware issues, and color of kit--the usual suspects.

mmmmmmmmmm....Delites are simply amazing....
You really can't go wrong with either brand, although personally i'd prefer the Sonor kit, because i think it looks better.
What sizes are the Delites? Finish style?

Ohhh, take the Delite, take the Delite. If it's as 'new' as you say it is, then get it NOW.
8,10,12,14,16 = a lot of drums, plus the Birdseye Cherry finish is gorgeous, I used to have one...

How heavy are those delights?
DELIGHTFULLY HEAVY?
I don't know that series, but I used to make fun of my buddy at music school while he went on and on about his Sonor kit, and then had to hire the Chinese Army as roadies to lug that heavy crap around. Sounded great though...
But that hardware case broke your back!

I know that in your situation, it's a win-win either way. I'd take the Sonor's though, purely out of biased personal preference. Sonor are my favourite drums, Yamaha a close second.

I like both kits, but I personally love the Sonor Delite, the drums, finish, sound and hardware all are immense. Not taking anything away from Yamaha, but I'd have the Sonor.
