I need suggestions for a junior drumset.

For my daughter this Christmas. She's 4 years old, about 40" tall, and about 40 lbs. I'm not looking for anything expensive, but I would like a *decent* kit that'll last for a while. Suggestions?

What's your budget? My first thought was a Gretsch Catalina. They're $600 but used ones go for $300-$400 all the time. The 18" bass should be small enough for her, and it will definitely last a while, though at this time the sizes may be a bit large.

In that case try finding a Sonor Jungle kit used. I think that would be just right. Generally junior kits that I know of aren't that great and probably wouldn't very long.

I don't know that there is any such thing as a decent junior kit. I bought one of the cheap ones a few years ago for my kids - I found it used. But the hardware was so thin the pedals bent, and the hi-hat never felt right. It was more of a toy. Of course I never invested in new heads. Decent cymbals for that size kit is also a problem.

I agree with fourstringdrums - if you've got a few hundred, get the smallest jazz kit that you can - used. Otherwise - a toy it must be.

You'll still need a throne, stands and cymbals but for the price...And it gets good reviews.

If you want a small kit for her but one that would be great for gigging (small group but still sound good for bigger groups if miced) check out the Taye GoKit.
Of course, it's easier to justify an $850 kit for a four year old if you get to use it too! :-)

Lots of great little kits in the market. Dont know names ( my nephew just got one ), but just ask any music store guys ( I know Sam Ash has some ) for childrens drums. TAMA has a swingstar but that might be too big for her. Try something called Beat-o. Theres a bunch of decent stuff, not made by the big drum brand names, thats out there. good luck, n merry christmas in advance
