Im looking to buy a new kit within the next six months or so. I want a 5 or 6 piece kit, nothing special.

I don't know what to get though!? Ive got a price range of about $2000 maybe a little less.

I play in a local metal band so im looking for a kit designed for that style of music.

Ive been suggested Mapex and PDP but I wanted to get some more opinions, and wanted to know more about what I could get in my price range!

Thanks!

No kit is "designed" for a particular style except for the sizes that you use. If you're playing metal for instance you don't really want to be playing a kit with an 18 inch bass drum and 10 and 14 inch toms. You could, but it's not ideal.

If your budget is $2000, I'd personally look at a set of Gretsch Renowns. They are excellent drums and you can get a 5 piece kit for about $1500 new. Used ones pop up all the time on Ebay for even less.

In that price range you could look at Starclassic Performers or GMS CL series. Both would be great for your style of music or... you could keep your eyes peeled for a nice used set.

How are the GMS CL series? I was almost 100% ready to go ahead and buy the Sonor Force 3007, but I wanted to find out more about GMS first.

I say Gretsh Renowns. So nice. One of the best priced sets out there. I especially like the old renowns.
