I'm looking for some advice on a fairly cheap double braced boom cymbal stand which is probably going to carry a 20" ride.

I've been looking here http://www.thomann.de/gb/cat.html?gf=boom_stands_for_cymbals&oa=pra

At the moment I am comparing the Gibraltar 5609, Pearl B-70W and Mapex B550A as these are fairly inexpensive. I understand that these are quite lightweight though so will they be sufficient to carry my 20" ride? I would spend a little more if the cheaper options I have listed really wouldn't be up to the job.

I find that with hardware, you get what you pay for. With drums you can strike up awesome deals like the mapex pro m, or a studio maple. It's not as much like that with hardware, I say just get one with a good name behind it, a warranty, and a decent price tag. Don't be too worried about it.

I use a Gibraltar 5609 to carry my 20" ride and have had no problems whatsoever. The stand stays rock solid, even with the boom almost fully extended. For the money, a great stand IMO.

What is your budget? I would definitely go for the Gibraltar over the Pearl and the Mapex. If all your holding is a 20" Ride, single braced will do just fine. I am using a Gibraltar 8610 Flat Based, which is single braced and is as light as you can get, It holds my 21" Ride and 10" Splash just fine. I also have a 20" Trash Crash and a 19" Ride each on one of these stands as well and it holds up just fine.

I used to mount a crash, 2 splashes, a remote hi-hat, and a tom off of one Yamaha Single Braced stand and it held up just fine. IMO unless you're touring and you really need something to hold up night after night, double braced isn't necessary.
