Just got this 5x14 10 and 6 DW maple snare today. Its in broken glass to match my other DW drums. Sounds fantastic. I tried several other snares today including a DW solid shell maple and a different 10 and 6 in black wrap. The one in black wrap sounded terrible for some reason even though it was the same as the broken glass snare. The solid shell sounded great but I prefered this one. Its funny the broken glass sounded better from 10 feet away and the solid shell sounded better from behind the kit. Overall both were very similar but this one had something a little extra.

Very nice pick-up, that's really a great snare. What were some specific details in the difference between the solid and yours.

They were the same size and had the same dw drum head. I tuned them both the same. The broken glass from 10 feet away seemed more dry ( which I like ) and had more tone to it. Also the broken glass seemed to have a little more crack to it. Both had good tone overall and like I said from behind the solid drum seemed to have a nicer tone to it but the difference between the 2 was so small that I couldnt justify the price difference for the solid shell snare. I know solid shells are generally considered better but I just didnt see that big a difference and I was really trying to like it. In the end the broken glass snare sounded better to me from a distance - the sound it projected was just perfect for me - so that ultimately was the reason I went with it. Also I didnt care for the clear maple finish on the solid drum. I had a ludwig classic kit for 15 years in clear maple and I am so sick of that color... LOL

Thanks! yes I have decided to go with Aquarian Super 2's on the toms and a texture coated power dot on the snare and a super kick 2 on the bass drum. I will probably order them tuesday. I will let you guys know how I like them shortly. I have a few gigs this month so I can put them thru there paces.

Man Mad,
That 26" bass drum is a BEAST! Be careful with that SKII on that drum, you might cause anything loose on the walls to fall, lol.

Personally not a huge fan of the sparkle finish, but I bet it sounds great, DWs are good.

Wow ! Stunning drums! The best part (for me) is the green sparkle snare. I like the sparkle and glass wraps. I'm looking for a Gretsch snare to wrap with that very sparkle - or is it a Glass-Glitter? I think I see a red sparkle drum there too.

Really nice DW kit!

Thanks KONA!! The green pork pie is actually has a green pearl wrap. It looks great. The DW kit is a glass finish. I also have a blue sparkle kit and I think that the glass looks better under the lights on stage better but both are great. Yeah that red sparkle kick is my 7yr old sons. A friend from work gave it to me... its a no name pawn shop prize. Im re arranging my drum room so I can set up his kit and mine side by side so we can jam together.
