Well, I did it, went out and bought this Pacific kit in sizes 8x10,9x12,12x14,5x14,18x22. The color is called blue onyx, I think Rogers drums used a finish similiar to this back in the sixties. The salesman told me the drums were personally inspected by him and there are no problems with the bearing edges. I looked myself and they are perfect, he told me that the Pacific QC has improved. I bought the kit, out the door for $675. Anyway here they are. Some updated photos.

Beautiful kit. Enjoy them, and now we don't want to see another new kit from you for at least a few months! (I should talk) :)

Yes you heard right, all maple shells, at least that's what it claims. I'm sure I'll find out later they have an inner ply of poplar or something. They are the CX series, ten lug snare and kick. I'm going to set them up tomorrow at the rehearsal room, I'll get some more pictures then, and I'll give you my full review. Thanks.

No, all maple. Different shells to the DW (thicker & no re-rings), but the maple comes from the same place as DWs. I think on the CX it's the 'uglier' plies they use, as the kit is wrapped and you can't see the wood grain. Still fine timber though, and no poplar

The CX is an LX kit with a wrap, same "grade" of wood, just not the best looking grain, so they throw the wrap on it.

Is that price for the shells only? Either way it's a good deal. Now you just need to find the matching 16" floor and you're set.

I'v heard horror stories about pacific hardware breaking down. Mind you, I think dw is a bit over rated. You're really paying for the same wood that you would get with any other company, but dw is such a large company, they upgrade there prices through the roof. Don't get me wrong, I love the dw kits, it's just why spend that much money when for the same you can get a bigger, and just as nice tama or pearl kit???? Mind you, I think for the price, pacifics are pretty cool. Congrats man :D....

I put some updated photos in the start of the thread.

These drums sound fantastic! I really can't believe they sound this good for the price I payed. My hat's off to DW for creating a line that's sounds pretty darn close to a DW kit, and making it affordable to even poor slobs like myself.

Nice kit, and yeah, you are a very fickle man. 3 kits in 9 months? Enjoy!!! How can this be. DW and Pacific.....Tama and Pearl? Not even made on the same continents.

Pssssss....don't tell your dad I also have a Tama snare, he may not like the idea of a Tama playing with a Pacific.

Yes they are junk, that's why I bought them, I love junk, especially when they sound great and don't cost much.

Cool stuff.

I like the four piece setup most though - just sings classiness.

Keep working on him, I actually knew nothing about PDP other than being owned by DW. I did some research and because the price was so good I decided to give them a shot. They sound so good I may never need to get another kit, well I guess I shouldn't say never, let's just say they rank right up there with every kit I've ever owned, and I've owned a lot.

Thats all i really know about them too. the cxr 6 piece shell pack with hardware cost like 1300 and my dad thinks its too good to be true because the tama starclassic maples cost like 3 grand.

are your rack toms in the order of big to small?

Not originally, I will change them now and then. I took the picture set up like that to see how it looks. One thing I like about putting the 12 first is I'm able to bring the ride more to where I normally would have it if I only had the one rack tom.I'm able to move the ride more to the left because the ten doesn't take up as much space as the 12. It also gives a different feel to the kit, which allows me to be more creative.

have you tried using a tom stand instead of having them mounted over the bass drum. i cant play with them on the bassdrum. also if you did that you could put the ride on a boom stand over the bass and it would be closer to you

I don't really want a snare stand on each side of the kick. What do you mean you can't play with them on the kick? If I mounted them on cymbal stands the position of the toms would be the same as using the double tom holder on the kick. I like my cymbal stands free of anything but cymbals, I have used a tom on a cymbal stand when I only use the one mounted tom, but never the second tom. I don't mind having toms on my kick, it doesn't seem to effect the sound. As far as a boom, I don't like my ride going over a tom, so I keep it to the side of the tom.
If I use two toms the ride cymbal is off to the right, more comfortable to me, here's how I set up using both mounted toms, if I only use one then the ride cymbal gets moved over to the left.

OK, I got ya, I've tried that setup, but I like my first tom directly in front of me. I don't like it so much to the left, and then the hi-hat gets moved over as well. That's a ice kit you have, lots of cymbals, too much for me however, when I'm gigging it's easier to have less gear to transport.

Which one were you looking at? Make sure you get a maple kit, I'm not sure about those new poplar ones.

OK, that's one of the laquered ones, which color? I was thinking about returning mine for one of those along with my Tama snare and just pay the difference. I like the two floor toms w/legs, and I like the finish on it, I believe it's a cherry fade, I'm not positive, but it looks fantastic.
