Slightly different set-up, coated ambassadors on all batters (and on bass drum resonant head), clear ambassadors on all other resonant sides. I'm aware that these are not top of the line drums, however, they are very warm and forgiving and sound great with the thin heads tuned up bop-style. The bass drum is tuned especially high with no muffling whatsoever to recreate the sound and feel of an 18" or 20" on a 22" as best as possible (to make it more than suitable as a jazz set).

I take it your a jazz guy? really classy set-up, your rack tom has really taken a beating. I must say that yamaha aint the most interesting set of drums i've seen, but i bet they sound great. and nice cymbal selection

i'd like to say that tour custom are pretty good for the price. Better than those stupid stage customs with the plastic lugs :P

I am indeed a jazz guy! Yes, I'll most likely change my snare and rack tom batter heads soon... I must agree, the drums themselves are quite average, but 5 years ago, to a beginner drummer, these drums with a 700$ price tag were quite appealing ;) This is mainly a practice kit, so they are fairly sufficient. When I do eventually have enough funds, I'd like to maybe buy a custom stave kit from Hard Bop Drum Co. in your standard bop sizes *drools*

These are Stage Customs from back when there was only one series in the line, hence the high tension lugs. 1998 I believe.

That's odd, you're the only person I've ever seen the ride and the crash switched like that... have you ever tried them the other way?

Looks are deceiving my internet friend, the 20" medium thin on the right is used as a ride, in fact they're all used as ride cymbals despite the fact that two of them are "in reality" crashes (the other crash is an 18" medium). To give all 3 "rides" more stick definition, less wash, and to make them a bit drier in tone, I've attached a single thin strip of medical tape to the underside of each cymbal in a radial fashion. Works great!
