I thought they were meant for snares. I've played a snare with one and liked the sound.

Its like the old suggestion of using a power center head on a 14" tom.
It often works, but then you are left with a tom or two with odd heads on.

Snare heads can be clear, and without center dots. None of my snares have power dotted heads. Looking at the Aquarian site, it looks as though the FocusX comes in a bunch of sizes, for toms even. That's pretty cool. I've only seen them sold as 13 or 14". It looks like it's similar to a Powerstroke3. I may have to try that out for my toms! Thanks for the heads up.

Which is actually what I'm going to try whenever it comes in. As long as it gives me the tone I want, they're all coated heads so no one is going to know by looking unless they read the print on the head.
Aren't the Focus-X heads the same as the Studio-X heads?

Nope. The FocusX have the ring underneath like a PS3 (same diameter as head but barely touches it). The StudioX have a smaller muffle ring glued to the bottom of the head. Aquarian has a couple of other heads that can come with the StudioX ring as an option.

Ive been using a coated one on my snare for a month & i really like it. I was using evans genera hd dry before & they are simuliar heads. I think i like the focus x more but there is not much in it.

How does it sound? I'm thinking about getting them when I replace my heads, but I wasn't sure if it would be too muffled. What size is the tom that its on? Did you get the coated one?
Does anyone know if these are one or two ply? It doesn't say at all on Aquarian's website.
