Fred,
OMG is an understatement. Those are the sweetest Ddubs I have ever seen. I really wish I were in your shoes right now, lol. Have fun with them and post some more pics when they are set-up. Also, since you seem to be dabbling in recording now, post some files. Big time CONGRATS!

As a distinctly non-DW person, I would usually start this with a jibe.

But those are absolutely beautiful. Fine furniture, not drums.

What do you have for hardware? They would look amazing with nice DW chrome stands, and a whole bunch of super shiny glimmering cymbals. If this happens to be what you have. Take your digital camera, take about 1000 photos of yours drums. every little part of it. then burn it to about 10 dvds (just to be sure) and put it in a safe. Not something you ever want to forget

Another member of the DW exotic clan! Welcome!
I thought you were kidding when you said you got a new kit from guitar center. Very nice finish, and you didn't even have to wait 6 months.
Congrats!

Wow, just wow. I love the sound of these drums on the new rush album, I can't wait to hear some samples of your kit. If I were to get a DW kit, a VLT would be my choice for sure, the wood grain is something to behold. Congrats!

Hi again,

My hardware is Dw 9000 series, I was able to get the kit up and played it for about an hour yesterday. It was fun.

When I arrived at GC they were busy so I checked out all the kits on the floor. I've noticed different stores seem to have their own way of tuning their kits. I tapped all the toms on the floor and the drums were tuned pretty low.

Once I got the kit home I checked the head tensions with a drum dial. The tensions were set between 50 - 60. I just evened out everything at 60. I normally set the tension between 70 - 75 on my other kits. It sounded pretty good. I'll mic it up this weekend and gradually bring up the tension and see what happens. I'm going to leave the stock heads on the kit for now.

I had a 13 X 5.5 solid shell dialed in pretty good so I paired that up with the kit and they got along fine. No snare buzz or weird rattles going on. I'll try a couple more snares this weekend.

I looked at a lot of kits this past week. Nothing really jumped out at me until I saw this one.

Again, thank you all for the compliments. I'm still pretty excited.

Orgasmic: Something so overwhelming that it has the potential to create a point of intensity of emotional excitement similar to the physical and emotional sensation experienced at the peak of sexual excitation, usually resulting from stimulation of the sexual organ and usually accompanied in the male by ejaculation.

Yes, that kit is orgasmic.

Your kit sounds a little low in those clips. (IMO. A lot of people love that thud sound) Just for the hell of it try tuning them to the note stamped inside the shell by ear sometime. I had mine tuned to what sounded good, but once I isolated the ideal tone they blew me away.
Use this website as a tuning reference. Tune both batter and reso to that note. Then you will be a member of RESO-NATION!

Here it is. F***ing gorgeous man !!!

I agree,

When I got the drums home I evened out the tension with a drum dial. The setting came out around 65. My other DW kit is tensioned between 75 - 80. The set up was hasty at best.

The bass drum has the factory pillow in it and that's gonna come out. Once I get them dialed in I post some more clips.

Thanks for the input.

The hats are Paiste sound edge. I like em a lot. Every time Danielson threw a punch I'd crash a cymbal and hit a rim shot.

Yes, I tried those at a GC this summer. very nice! thinking of buying them and flipping over my Acustom 13s to my X-hat.

Nice SFX! to the crash/ rim-shot combo, I'd add the kick... the kick, get it?

nice looking kit, but. It would piss me off that the two floor toms look odd in apperance compared to the bd and racktoms. Im not trying to be negative, just posting my opinion.

Fred,
The Craviotto looks great with the new kit, and I'm sure it sounds great with that kit. I really like the finish on the re-rings too. You'll definitely have to keep running clear batter heads to enjoy the beauty of the inner shell too.

That is such a nice finish, and lovely drum sizes throughout. I'd be scared to touch it because it's so nice through fear of scratching it or something.
