Emperor X heads are ungodly thick. They are actually thicker than regular Emperors to begin with and THEN there is a dot on the underside as well. They will make snares sound boxy and lifeless. However, when using gigantic sticks and beating the hell out of them, they can sound okay.

I would say that you are not in the minority when it comes to tuning these heads. You have to crank them down tight and hit hard!

This head makes a better frisbee than anything else. I had to use a cheater bar on my drum key to get it to sound half decent. I have a similar opinion of the EC2 dotted snare.

I tuned mine just fine. Took maybe a tiny bit longer than normal, but couldnt have taken that much extra time or i wouldve noticed.

Great head for a heavy hitter. They arent any harder than an other head to tune.

i have an emperor x and to get it to sound good you really need to tighten it and hit it hard. tis a nice head when does though. also i thought tuning was a bit harder than last snare head.

I have used them. I had no problem tuning them. I stopped using them because with my country band I do a lot of brush work.

I have the same problem. I play a Mapex Saturn set. I have tightend that thing to the extreme and it sounds ok.. I also had the problem that it only sounded ok when I hit the center of the head.. It sounded bad when I hit right next to the dot..

i too found you really have to crank thease heads up.... have a look at an aquarian hi-energy snare head or evans power centre rev dot . i find thease heads a lot nicer :D ..IMO ..
