Bass Drum Beaters

Does anyone have preferred bass drum beaters or does it really make a difference which kind you use?

I use the standard DW Dual Sided beater and use the plastic side. It does make a difference. If I use the DW Medium Felt I have it has a softer tone, but with more attack than if I use the felt side of the dual beater. If I use that side it has a softer sound with no attack.

I'm currently using the Pearl Eliminator beaters, but the felt is wearing out very quickly on them (And I prefer felt to that awfully clicky plastic!)

Ive always used the DW dual sided beaters using the felt side. I just got a Yamaha flying dragon pedal recently and really like the felt beater that came on that as well. I have used the dual sided beaters on the Tama iron cobra at church... but prefer the DW ones. The DW are a little bigger than the Tama ones. Just personal preference. I to dont really like the plastic side of the beaters since Im looking for more boom than attack.

I always liked felt myself. Although it would be fun to play on a big bass drum around 26" with a wool beater...

For about 3 years I've used a Tama flat headed wooden beater, but since I got my Pearl Eliminator with its 4 different beater heads, I'm still kind of deciding which one I like...this pedal has almost too many options to choose from!

I use Pacific double sided beaters one is Plastice the other is felt,
there also very speedy.

I use either the DW beater and the Vater Bomber (Sheep Wool/Cork).

Makes a big difference in sound. And in pedal feel. I have about 10 different ones. Like Madwatch, the Yamaha Flying Dragon felt beater is one of my favorites. Cymbalrider, I drive a 26 and you are correct, a big wool beater is a blast. Talk about dropping "the bomb"! The beaters that came with my Off-Set pedals are like the DW plastic/felt type, and I use those (felt side). And I have a Danmar wood/felt roundball combo that works real nice.

So...all the companies sell the beaters separately? Or... would it be impossible to obtain them without buying the pedals?

Promark makes beaters too and so does Vater and a lot of companies do.

What's with these flat things these days. I think the iron cobra was the start but there are some that are a lot worse. Just little flat light beaters that sort of slap the drum.

I use the DW beater with the hard side. I think something gets lost on a DW bass drum with a felt beater.

About the Iron Cobra flat beaters,

Should I get them to replace the stock Dw standard beaters?

I wanna try the Iron Cobra because to me it seemed lighter. I don't always necessary look for the power and the boom feeling in the bass drum with the extra weight in the bass drum but I'm more interested in hitting those doubles and triplets. I know that you can pretty much do it with any beater heads but I'm just wondering if a lighter beater can be advantage to my playing?

I've made my own out of those big size superballs. It's tricky to drill through the superballs because they're actually pretty brittle and crumbly, but if you're careful, you can do it.

The sound is warm, fat and punchy and they don't seem to rebound much more than a felt beater. They are very easy on the head and you could play without a head pad. They do have less volume, however, but I've been playing 24 years and I've never, ever heard anyone to tell a drummer to play louder.

I've always enjoyed the feel and warm sound of the felt-type beaters and that's all I prefer to use.

The dw hardcore beaters are great!! You can get so many different sounds adjusting the foam to plastic ratio. Seriously try them!
